Discover how Dr. Lang and his expert team wipe out tooth decay from your grin.

Cavities may be the most common dental problem, but they’re also one of the easiest oral health issues to treat and prevent. You can prevent cavities on your own by brushing, flossing, and keeping sugar to a minimum, but nothing replaces the expertise of having a skilled dentist like Dr. Lang in your corner.

During your routine dental appointments, Dr. Lang and his team are always on the lookout for signs of trouble. By staying on top of the latest advancements in cavity prevention, detection, and treatment, they’re able to spot cavities and get them taken care of before they become a serious problem.

Here are 5 examples of how Dr. Lang works to keep your smile as cavity-free and healthy as possible.

1. Our powerful DIAGNOdent laser detects early signs of tooth decay before it can be spotted with a visual examination or x-rays.

Dr. Lang is a big fan of dental technology, especially advanced tools that make it easier to treat patients. One of our favorite tools is the DIAGNOdent laser, a handheld device that detects signs of tooth decay with incredible accuracy.

A combination of x-rays and visual examinations is the traditional approach to cavity detection. Although quite successful, the rear molars are notoriously tricky when it comes to catching the earliest stages of a cavity. The DIAGNOdent has been shown to be the most accurate system for detecting tooth decay on the surface of these rear molars.

During your dental appointments, we’ll scan over your teeth with this device to catch any hot spots where a cavity is beginning to form. This process is quick and easy!

2. After treating a cavity we’ll fill the space with a tooth-colored composite filling that looks just like your natural teeth.

Sometimes cavities are inevitable, even with a flawless oral care regimen and biannual dental visits. If we spot a cavity in your smile, don’t worry! We’ll get you taken care of with a gentle touch.

After Dr. Lang has treated your cavity and removed any signs of tooth decay, he will fill in this new space with a composite filling. Composite fillings are tooth colored and look just like natural teeth. We bet you won’t even be able to tell which tooth has a filling in it when you look in the mirror!

3. Every six months you’ll come in for a professional deep clean that removes cavity-causing plaque and bacteria.

Dentists strongly recommend biannual dental checkups for a very important reason—plaque buildup causes cavities and other problems. The hygiene portion of your checkup gives you a super deep clean that isn’t possible to achieve at home with a toothbrush and floss, even if you’re a pro when it comes to at-home oral care.

During your professional dental cleaning, our hygienist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums, measure the depth of your gum pockets, and ask you questions about your oral care regimen. They’ll take notes on anything out of the ordinary they see so Dr. Lang is able to take a look after your cleaning as well.

From there you’ll have your teeth cleaned and have the option of an additional fluoride treatment. We recommend opting in for the fluoride for cavity prevention and enamel health.

4. You won’t want to skip your appointments thanks to our compassionate, patient-focused approach to dental care.

Skipping dental checkups and cleanings increases your risks of developing cavities and other oral health issues. It also makes permanent damage to your teeth much more likely as your dentist doesn’t have a chance to catch it within the six months between recommended appointments.

Dr. Lang and the Great Miami Dental team have a strong focus on providing the most comfortable, patient-focused approach to dental care and treatment possible. We want our patients to feel at home with us and as secure as possible, especially if they have to cope with dental anxiety.

By striving to do everything we can to serve you during your appointments, we really want to develop a strong relationship with you that turns dental visits into something you don’t want to skip.

5. We’ll help you design an at-home oral hygiene routine that keeps your smile healthy and bright.

Every patient is an individual with their own smile goals, quirks, and care needs. In addition to recommending everyone brushes and flosses at least twice a day, we’ll also help you refine your at-home care regimen even further.

Dr. Lang can help you find the perfect toothbrush or upgrade to a powered toothbrush. We’ll also recommend the best toothpaste and mouthwash for your smile. For example, if you experience temperature sensitivity we’ll steer you towards a product line designed to strengthen your enamel. If you’re more focused on getting a bright, white smile, we’ll tell you which whitening toothpaste is the best choice and get you started with a professional whitening kit.
